Abergele Community Action is a unique community project which operates out of an Internet Café and ICT facility known as Itaca… and is located on the ground floor of Hesketh House in the centre of Abergele.
We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
What We Do
Who are we
Established as Abergele Youth Action in 2001 initially as a Youth Inclusion Project we soon realised there was a wider need in the community and in 2005 took over part of the ground floor of our current premises and opened an Internet Cafe. We now deliver an informal community based intervention on the whole of the ground floor premises aimed at those who are (or at risk of becoming) excluded from mainstream social, economic, educational and/or digital opportunities. In 2009 we took over the lease of the whole 3 storey building.
In 2005 Abergele Community Action Ltd was registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee and later registered as a charity in 2008.
Itaca… is an example of a successful community enterprise which uses the income generated from the commercial use of the building to provide a superb ground floor facility to the public.
Led by a full time Project Manager and a Board of Trustees with many years of varied experience Itaca… works alongside a team of dedicated volunteers to deliver much needed facilities to the community
